Delicious Zobo Drink – From Nigeria

Zobo is a popular Nigerian drink made from hibiscus flowers. It is a refreshing and nutritious beverage that is enjoyed all year round. Ingredients:

  • 200g of dried hibiscus flowers
  • 2 litres of water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 piece of ginger (about 1 inch)
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • Juice of 2-3 lemons or limes (optional)

How To Prepare This Recipe:

  • Rinse the hibiscus flowers in water to remove any dirt or debris.
  • In a large pot, add the hibiscus flowers, cinnamon sticks, and ginger.
  • Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat and simmer for 20–30 minutes until the liquid turns deep red.
  • Remove the pot from the heat and strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve to remove the hibiscus flowers, cinnamon sticks, and ginger.
  • Add sugar to taste and stir until it dissolves.
  • Allow the zobo to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until cold.
  • Serve the zobo with a slice of lemon or lime (optional).
