Sushi is a popular Japanese dish that has gained worldwide popularity in recent years. It is typically made by combining sushi rice with various fillings, such as raw fish, vegetables, and egg, and wrapping it in seaweed or soy paper. Sushi-making is considered an art form in Japan, and requires a combination of technique, precision, and creativity.
Ingredients:
- 300g sushi rice
- 400ml water
- 3 tbsp rice vinegar
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 sheets of nori seaweed
- 1 avocado, sliced
- 200g raw salmon, sliced
- 1 cucumber, sliced into thin strips
- 4 tbsp soy sauce
- Wasabi paste, to taste
- Pickled ginger, for serving
How To Prepare This Recipe:
- Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain the rice and add it to a pot with 400ml of water. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Cook the rice for 15-20 minutes until all the water is absorbed.
- In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until the sugar and salt are dissolved.
- When the rice is done, move it to a large mixing basin and stir in the vinegar mixture.
- Mix the rice with the vinegar until it is uniformly covered.
- Let the rice cool to room temperature.
- Cut the nori sheets in half and lay them on a sushi mat or a clean kitchen towel with the shiny side facing down.
- Wet your hands with water to prevent the rice from sticking. Take a handful of rice and spread it evenly over the nori sheet, leaving a small border at the top edge.
- Add the avocado, salmon, and cucumber slices to the center of the rice.
- Roll the sushi tightly, using the sushi mat or kitchen towel to guide and press the roll together.
- Slice the sushi into 8-10 pieces using a sharp knife.
- Serve the sushi with soy sauce, wasabi paste, and pickled ginger.
