Pap and Chakalaka is a traditional South African dish that many people in the region enjoy. It is a simple, delicious meal made with two main components – maize porridge and a spicy tomato and vegetable relish called Chakalaka.
Maize porridge, also known as Pap, is a staple food in South Africa and is made from ground maize (corn) cooked with water until it thickens into a smooth, creamy texture. The porridge can be made with different types of maize meal, such as white or yellow, and can be served in various consistencies, from soft and runny to firm and solid.
Chakalaka is a spicy relish made from tomatoes, onions, peppers, and spices. The ingredients are sautéed together until they are tender and flavorful, and the mixture is usually served as a side/secondary dish or topping for various South African dishes.
